Dear Friends,
Simchat Torah 5784, a day meant for joy and celebration, will now also be remembered as a day of unimaginable tragedy for the Jewish people. On this very day, October 7, 2023, 1,200 precious lives were taken in the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
To honor and memorialize those we lost on that day and in the subsequent war, Chabad of Charlotte is commissioning a special Torah cover, which will be inaugurated on Simchat Torah, October 24, 2024. The cover will feature the words "Am Yisrael Chai" on the front, with a tribute to the victims underneath.
Simchat Torah is a day of joy and celebration of being Jewish. As we celebrate what it means to live as a Jew, we will never forget those who have died for being Jews. As the Hebrew inscription on the Torah cover states "Their bodies are not with us, their memory is in our hearts, and their souls will forever dance in the joy of the Torah."
This is a community project, not a fundraiser. Participation starts at just $10, allowing all of us to take part in this collective expression of memory, resilience, and unity.
As we approach Simchat Torah, let us come together to celebrate the joy of Torah and life, while remembering the souls we lost on that same day a year ago. Join us in this meaningful project to keep their memory alive.
Am Yisrael Chai!
